I think I may make this a whole weekend trip and spend some time fishing again now that i know more. maybe i can feed all of yall this time. It probably would be a bad idea to solo in from the east rim without a guide...just guessin. I'll probably go in at Babel, fish my way down to the typical river campsites, and meet whoever comes down, or if anybody wants to come down Friday, bring yer old Zebco and rip some lips!
kbark and I did this route from the east :park at the Spence Ridge Trail head, walk the road to the Mtn to Sea trail, take that into the woods until it meets the Table Rock trail then take Table Rock back to Spence Ridge and hike Spence Ridge down to the river cross over to the West Side. We then camped pretty close to where you almost died the night before we met you last time. It was a good hike for a 2 day trip. If you want to make a whole weekend out of it, it may not live up to what you're looking for. But I think you'd be just as fine coming in from the east as you would be from the west.
teddy pender : i grew up at the beach, I swam with sharks and jellyfish, not some ghey ass chlorinated pool with kids piss in it.
I can probably do another weekend in March if you want. 2nd or 3rd weekend would work for me. Would have to be a Sat/Sun.

Here is another place to cross the Linville River. I'm not sure if you can stay dry the whole way across but it's an alternative to the Spence Bridge.

Had a shuttle/fishing/camping trip to Wilsons planned for that weekend. Could be down to hike the Gorge too, its been a while.
Just from previous experience; I wouldn't risk crossing anywhere but @ the bridge..........just sayin'.
A good route from the Western side is parking @ the top of Gingercake, hiking in from Gingercake, over to Babel and crossing @ the bridge.
Let me know if this weekend is still good, I'll have 2 others with me.
I'm holding off till March 31. Sharbbles may be up for that weekend too. I can't wait on the shiddler crab to plan.
