Ride Poston!

E-mail Print PDF

That's right you heard me, go ride Poston. After some minor thought and some pretty easy trail work today we made a loop out at Poston that is all but officially open. I would estimate it's a good three miles long or so, not what we had before the lake project started but a very good start to our new trail system just the same. Essentially it's the Spencer Mountain Loop and the Spencer Mountain Loop Extension with a different route in and a few new pieces of trail here and there. We are moving the trailhead (loosely used term) down to the very last parking lot where the dog park and soccer fields are at least for now. From there you ride the powerline cut back towards the old trail system. There are two creek crossings on this new route but that just adds to the fun. So even though the trail is "closed" according to the kiosk feel free to explore the new loop, if you already know the trail system pretty well if shouldn't be too hard. If you want me or someone else to show you the new loop just post up, those who worked today should all have it down. I'll post a more detailed description of how to follow it as well if wanted. I am going to try to get signage up next weekend then it'll be very simple. Thanks to Dave, John, Scott, Calvin and his rugrats Ramsey and Murphy.

Time To Put Poston Trail Back Together...

E-mail Print PDF

The lake project at George Poston Park is far enough along now that we can start piecing the mountain bike trail back together. Trail work days for the most part will be Saturday mornings from around 8AM to 1PM kind of like it used to be. We may work Sundays sometimes as well. On a positive note, tying some fashion of trail back together should be fairly simple. There are still some weird things to deal with like the location of the new trailhead, stream crossings, etc. but overall we could have a trail opened before end-of-year as long as there's a good volunteer movement. After that we can work on expanding the trail and trying to reach that elusive milestone of 10 miles that were were so close to before the clearing for the lake began. So put November 20th on your calendar as the potential ramp-up date. We will probably be out there some before that day and I'll post those days up to the "Trail Projects" forum just as all work days will be posted. Remember the more helping hands we can get in the woods the sooner we can get Poston Trail opened back to the eager public!

PASA Site Articles and Forum Integration!

E-mail Print PDF

Integration

There is a new feature on the website that has been in the works for a few weeks. It's something I've been wanting to get in place for a while but sometimes it's hard to talk myself into doing computer work after sitting in front of a computer for 8 hours during my "real" workday. The front-page of the PASA website and the forum are now integrated. When a new article is posted to the front-page that article will also be available in the "PASA News" section of the forum. You will have an option below the article on the front-page to read and post comments using your forum account. You can also comment on that article on the forum in the "PASA News" section as it will be available there as well. So comments can be read or made in either location and it's all one-in-the-same. Since the PASA website is so forum heavy it's a challenge (for me) to work on making it more content driven as well, which it really needs to be. I mean look at the home page, this is the first new article since the launch of the new site almost a year a go. Tying the front page (and really I can do this with the whole site and eventually will) into the forum will push the whole site in the more dynamic direction and in the process drive me to put more content someplace other than just the forum.

PASA 2.0

E-mail Print PDF

Welcome to PASA 2.0! There is a lot of content still to be added but I felt that since I have the forums completed then we might as well go ahead and open the site. The forums are what people are here for 99% of the time after-all. So for a while it might be a bit sparse but we'll get more content on the site over time (not that bikepasa has ever been much beyond a forum but I'm gonna try to change that). Also the old forum will not be imported to P2.0 so we're starting fresh (yes The Rules Thread is dead). Additionally you will have to recreate your account...sorry all you PASA forum junkies lost your sweet post counts.

Right off the bat if you're using Internet Explorer you might notice that the site looks a little funky. Long story made short....IE sucks! It's amazing how a site can look just fine in every other browser ever made yet the big kid on the block is always the trouble causer. My suggestion to you is to load Firefox, Google Chrome, or the likes. You won't be sorry, they're all better than IE anyhow. I will revisit the browser compatibility problems with Microsoft's sweet browser at a later date (it's not really high on my list). I noticed that if you're running IE8 using compatibility mode helps a little bit so you can give that a try if you're die hard MSFT!
